The answer, I imagine, is that Kris can cut a real fine line, way
skinnier then most. But only if he likes his wheel. A wheel will get
out of place if you smash it enough.. So after he does enough wheel
damaging stuff to make him curious, he checks and adjusts his wheel in
the field. So even if you own a uni factory, that is irrelevant, as is
having a great LBS. I look at Kris in the field adjusting his spokes ,
as being as basic as a guitar player adjusting strings. You can't
perform at a high level if your instrument is out of tune. And you
won't go an hour without it getting a little out of tune. There is just
no time for Bike shops, if you want a perfect wheel now. 🙂

rider your not gonna be getting it "OUT OF TUNE" as you as every hour.

well that depends, if you do big stuff but are a less capable rider
you're more likely to knock the wheel out as your landing technique is
not great.

And as for why KH tunes his wheel, a broken wheel is going to be a
major problem to him when he's riding out in the far east, hundreds if
not thousands of miles from the nearest source of a new wheel. Watch a
film like enter the thunder dragon and wonder about what he would do if
his wheel failed.

That guitarist bit was pretty good. They always seem to be tuning
them...themselves, pretty sensitive stuff. Who really cares, as long as
you are riding!
