... Now does this make any practical sense? No. The fairing without fins is undoubtedly a better way to go and far less complex. And for overall utility it's probably best to stick with the original unfaired bike for less weight and greater convenience....
In the case of a long-wheelbase recumbent, the performance increase of a front fairing is well worth the weight and expense (not to mention the side benefit of greater comfort in cold and wet conditions).
