I have a mystery click that I am trying to diagnose and cure on my Rivendell Atlantis. Each pedal stroke on my left crank causes a click or two at just before the beginning of the downstroke when I am bearing down, not simply spinning. I have about 500 miles on the bottom bracket, a Shimano/Tange, with a Sugino XD crank with a triple chainring, SPD pedals--new. The BB is not loose. The crank is seated on a square shank using teflon tape and is snug. No crack in the BB shell. What else could it be that I am missing?
Check your saddle. Grease the clamp and the rails, grease where the rails attach to the body. If it doesn't click when honking, it's almost certainly the saddle.
Outside bet: put a bit of grease on the QR serrated clamps and the hub locknuts.
Thanks, Zog! I will grease the seat rails and check the QR clamps tonight--of course then I have to go for a ride but it is all good. Thnaks for the input!
