You know, that's bollocks. I agree that on tracks up to the roughness of
Belgian pave a crosser is going to be faster than a full-on mountain
bike, but any rougher than that and an unsuspended bike starts to
experience real problems, both in traction and in rolling resistance
(not to mention rider comfort). And an unmetalled track scarcely really
count as off road. I found that going from a rigid to a full suspension
bike I was at least 10% quicker on off-road.
