Nice race report, congrats on your beyond the expectations finish.
That is some elevation gain. The race sounds like, is comparable to the Mt. Washington road race in the North East (8 miles + elevation gain). The Mt. W might be relatively easier with asphalt and dirt roads.

There are a couple sections with multi-thousand-feet drop-offs, especially in the Devil's Backbone section. So there's a bit of a thrill/fear factor involved. At the beginning of the race, they said they'd abort it if a thunderstorm developed -- fortunately, skies were clear the whole way. And some very steep jagged rock sections. Also, because you're so high, the views and sky are spectacular.

How did Mr.60 do?
He finished 1 or 2 minutes back -- within sight. Age adjusted, he ran better than I did.

Similar in elevation but please note that Mt. W tops out at 6k and Mt. B starts at 6K. That's some thin air. 😉 I always wanted to do Mt. W but it's a long drive for such a short race.
