I usually promote vigorous sports like running for its immediate pleasures rather than controversial advantages in the distant future. Using your muscles, getting the blood flowing, breathing deeply, being outdoors, team comradary, etc. feels good and this feeling can last all day. Its only the initial months getting into shape that can be unpleasant.
If someone doesnt enjoy what they are doing now, they arent going to stick with for the necessary decades, and its not going to help their mental health.

And even then, that's only during the activity. The "feeling can last all day" part comes into play well before the "feels good" part does -- at least that's my experience.
