Do you know of anyone who lowcarbed for decades, to maintain weight? How did it affect them?
I am not trying here to bash lowcarbers, not at all, I want to understand what works and what does not, very long term.
IMHO, even if you will mix low-carb "lore" and current mainstream "complaints", you can go to 75-100g of carbs without to much worry.
As much as 75g will likely prevent you going into the ketosis, which remains to be only real mainstream complaint, provided that you will choose your fat sources wisely (MUFA) and not overdo protein (staying at about 1.5g / kg).
Ig, there was an article in Discover Magazine earlier this year, I really wish I could remember the date or the name of the doctor it was about. Anyway, he had come up with an eating plan after a lot of research, and I think the article was titled something like "How We Should Eat" or something like that. It wasn't really a weight loss plan, more of an overall health plan, and one focus was on eating low-GI foods. Actually, the term he used was GL - Glycemic Load, which takes into account both the Glycemic Index of a food and the amount of the food. So while there were definitely foods on there that you wouldn't eat on the Atkins weight loss phase, there were way fewer sugars and starches than the typical American diet. I also believe he recommended limiting saturated fats but eating a good amount of unsaturated and poly-unsaturated. And to avoid trans fats like the plague.
