On another internet forum I heard of a person fitting a Third Eye chain
watcher to an OCLV. He cut off the band portion of the Third Eye,
leaving just the wing part, and fastened it to the OCLV with a zip tie.

I thought of that, but I don't think it will work, because of the shape of
the gussetting where the zip tie would need to go. It makes sort of a
conical cross section, rather than a cylindrical one. Thanks for the
suggestion.

If someone really did this, I'd like to see it.

I used a piece of rubber -- a mount for a heart rate monitor -- to make
a chainwatcher for my OCLV. Here's a couple of images (no comments
about the dirty bike, please):

I cut the thing in half, and instead of it wrapping around the
handlebar, it wraps around the frame. The thickness of the thing
varies, so I was able to find a position that was the right distance
from the chainrings. I drilled a hole through it for a big zip tie.
The plastic tape is to keep the zip-tie from moving vertically along
the seat tube.

I mounted a Deda dog fang (which is similar to the 3rd eye) on my frame,
which is not an OCLV but has a "strange" shape in that area.
It works very well.
I cutted it and used a rubber band and a zip tie instead of the bolt.
I'll post a picture tomorrow.
