Plastic bushing-based jockey wheels always worked fine for me. My LBS
charged me $2 for a pair of almost-new ones (complete) from their junk
box christmas before last. At the price you can probably just buy
them for now and keep them as spares when the real ones come in. Yeah
you'll lose 100 ft of travel every 10 mi, or whatever bullseye used to
spout, but these days 100 ft of travel is the least of my worries ...

This brings up an interesting question. What goes wrong when I put 9
or 10 speed pulleys on a 5/6/7 speed drivetrain ?? According to
Sheldon Brown's web site, freewheel cogs haven't been getting skinner
- spacers have been shrinking up through 9 speed and the outside width
of the chain (pins, plates) has been shrinking.

So aren't 8/9 speed pulley teeth a the same width as 5/6/7 speed
teeth ?

Will the 9/10 speed pulleys be too narrow, requiring washers on both
sides - to make space for the wider 5/6/7 speed chain, which is
needed, to avoid jams in the front chainwheels ???

yeah maybe-shimano has had a replacement for suntour wheels
but that's not the 8/9 speed 11 tooth model now common see harris
special order
