self-discipline are temporary feelings for immediate situations.

This is patent BS. Willpower is a part of life for real people, as
natural as breathing. Eating pleasant tasting food is a nice, but there
is no reason to eat more than is neccessary. Sex is an even stronger
drive than food. If we accept your reasoning regarding the difficulty in
resisting temptation, and your willingness to excuse those who give in
to temptation, rapists would be the norm. We would be expected to feel
sorry for them and assist them in their futile attempts to stop raping
women. Hell, maybe we should provide free getaway cars, lubricant and
balaclavas for them, I mean it isn't their fault after all, and they
would have a genuine need for fast transport. That is until the rape
acceptance groups change the law and make women fair game.

Of course, in this scenario, fat women will be pretty safe.

Willpower should be a permanent part of your psyche, and if it was,

Wow. Do you mean that life ISN'T a roller coaster ride? Could it

It sets you up to remain a weak and ineffectual person for the rest of

Who am I excusing? When did I say it was ok to let temptation rule?
Recognizing that temptation exists, and that willpower alone is not
always enough to deal with it, is simply recognizing reality. I'm
taking a pragmatic approach here, looking at what works and what doesn't
work for people who have and have not succeeded at losing weight. What
you're doing is starting from a personal, biased, philosophical,
subjective position on how you think people _should_ think, feel, and
behave, and trying to work that into weight loss.

Except that's not how people work. Happiness should be a permanent part
of your psyche, and if it was, sadness would never be a problem for you.
Oh yes, wouldn't the world be nice if that were true? Nope, sorry, it
isn't. Feelings come and go, you have to be able to do what you need to
do even if you don't feel like doing it.

So what do you do then? Buy and cook large meals of carbs, place them
in front of you, and stare them down without eating them to prove how
strong you are? If so, good for you that you have a hobby.
