Longer rides would be an idea too.

Too? Longer rides are what it's all about, extending the range
gradually and sensibly. (IMO of course).

<ahem> yeah, I've got an annoying habit of understating the important
things :-) In my defence I do about the same distances as Audrey and have
recently done two (very short) audaxes on the back of it.

Cycling seems to be one of those things where you can pootle on forever.
In my experience long distance training for rides up to 100/150km-ish is
desirable but only becomes essential if you want to cycle long distances
over consecutive days. I'm fairly certain it's also important for stupidly
long rides like 'proper' audaxes as well but have no experience of that
    yet.

Audrey, don't take this as me saying "forget the long distance training" -
Without it the ride will be a challenge. With it it'll be a really quite
    pleasant journey.

If I were you I'd go for training and a pleasant journey, but unfortunately
I'm me and rather lazy, so end up with a challenge :-/

Um, hope that helps rather than confuses.

    Mark.
