    Your wife is happy, you are out an extra $30, and your best
    revenge is to patronize other shops in the future. I doubt
    there's anything magical about the Quest that makes it hard to
    service at another dealer.

    My guess is that by the time the salesman insisted you take
    the bike with you (which would mean the cassette would be
    used, and that you would be more committed to the bike) he
    already had a pretty good idea that they would want more money
    for the switch. He figured either you would never come back
    for the switch, or that they would have the leverage for the
    extra money because it would be harder for you to walk away.
    He just made the promise to get the sale closed. But, of
    course, I've only heard one side of the story and there are
    probably three here.
