can someone please tell me how I discover the frame size I need. I am

It isn't that simple any more. Once upon a time, bikes from all makers
used comparable frame geometry, so if you could ride a 24" frame from
one maker you could ride a 24" frame from another. Now that isn't true
even across a given manufacturer's own range - a 15" bike in one model
may well be bigger than a 24" of another model, even in the same
    manufacturer's range.

You have to go and try them.
