  1. Already been some good responses already. I too have had this little
hurt. It began when I tried getting back into speedwork and hills. Have
been able to work through it though without much trouble. Sounds like
your case is a bit more aggravated. Noticed your doc concentrated on the
gluteus medius. I believe that is where my pain originated.
    Check this link http://www.rad.washington.edu/atlas2/gluteusmedius.html
Notice that the attachment runs all along the crest. This link is a good
basic reference for running muscle anatomy. Good luck. I'll try those
    stretches myself.

I am curious if anyone can help me figure out what is going on. I am a
very competitive marathon runner and was supposed to run London last
weekend but could not because of this problem. I'll give the full
story---it started this winter when I would stand up or get out of the
car my first step on the right side would be incredibly painful right
on the top of the pelvis bone (iliac rest). I raced a 10k at the end
of February and the next week I had very sharp pain--again right on the
top of the hip--everytime I stepped on the right side. It felt like a
knife stabbing kind of pain. I ran through it and it eventually went
away for about a month. Infortunately this was two weeks before the
marathon. I could barely walk up stairs and it killed every step even
    walking.

I got a cortisone shot in the attachment of the gluteus med. muscle as
well as ultra sound. This helped with some of the hip pain but then I
had symptoms of bursitis as well as still had hip pain on the front and
    top of the bone.
So I did not run the marathon and really did not run for 2 weeks until
today. I ran 4 miles--the sharp pain is gone but I can tell if I start
training again it is going to tighten up again. Just from the 4 miles I
feel a little bit of tightness on the top and front of the bone.
The PT has not helped--I know what I feel when I am running is my psoaz
muscle and I know there is some weakness in the hamstring. I'm just
trying to figure out if anyone has had any problems with this and if
    anyone has any suggestions.
