Hi, I have an 80'ish Team Fuji road bike ... either upgrading the wheel or to get the doggone freewheel off?

    ---------------
upgrading to 'current' spacing and cassette with a new wheel set may be
your best option... wont hurt anything to spread the chainstays a
couple mm to get the wider hub in. BUT unless you stick with really old
friction shifters, you may want to get matching STI shifters.

if you've already broken a tool with the hub in a solid vise using the
wheel as a lever, it sound bad for getting the freewheel off. You
might try spraying in some stuff called 'Kroil' on the threads in the
back of the hub and wait a day or two and try again with a new tool....
Kano Kroil is a silicon based rust and gunk lube that really does work
    wonders on frozen parts.
