Anyone know what the band name "System of a Down" means? I looked at
their site but they don't say anything about the name and how/why they
    selected it. Grrr

No surprise that the webbage doesn't say anything about how they chose
their name. They were originally known simply as "Down," at least
until they signed with a major recording label. It was then discovered
that there already was a band called "Down," who immediately began
    threatening a lawsuit.

The record label (RCA) insisted that "Down" change its name, and in a
fit of pique the drummer, Shavo Odadjian, offered up "Immune System of
a Down Syndrome," a phrase that he'd picked up from pamphlet he'd been
reading at a rehab clinic he'd checked himself into. Specifically, he
keyed in on the following line from the pamphlet:

"Even simple dental maintenance must include precautions for the
compromised immune system of a Down syndrome patient."

RCA was not amused. After much negotiation, the name was shortened to
the less offensive "System of a Down."

Well, I know you, I love you, I can't live without you--- but my
cheeks hurt from the hooks you've implanted over the years. So I am
not biting on this until independent corroboration is forthcoming.
