Sorry John I got sidetracked, and wanted an update from JJuggle. I
forgot to add the bit about helmets that I was planning to write:

I still don't wear a helmet. I wore one a couple of times when I first
tried wheel walking, because the back of my head felt vulnerable from
having to lean back so far. After practising it for a while I don't feel
the need for a helmet while wheel walking any more, and stepping off the
wheel onto the ground is pretty easy. I am yet to return to the pedals,
but I will get there eventually. I don't think stair riding should
require a helmet, unless it is your first time or if you are riding down
stairs backwards.
