Hi, Looking for some advice about the possibility of changing Bars. I recently bought a fairly cheap 24 speed road bike (£250) with flat handle bars as I thought I could use the bike on various surfaces. Since riding it for a couple of months I find myself on the road all the time and would like to do longer runs.
So I would like to fit drop bars with integrated brake/gear levers.

is this possible, what components would I need and how much would it cost?
Just been costing up this for a friend who wants to do the same thing; between £60 and 100 for Sora STI units. then about 15-25 for bars and tape/plugs. Plus labour unless you want to do it yourself. Worth it though IMO.
Or you may be able to flip over the stem and remove spacers from the fork tube to drop the height of the bar,and you can get some very fancy bar ends that are effectively drops and forward projections combined, if you still need to get down. That would be a lot less work. Being tall I have my saddle well up , so with simple bar ends I find this arrangement gets my head fairly well down without drops.
