Interesting, but I am using Google Beta (my ISP no longer carries
usenet), and I don't get any of that. I do however get those weird
2-color underlined words that are indeed links, on my home computer,
but not here, at work. This makes me think that I (and you) have
picked up some spyware along the way.

Yeah. That seems pretty likely. Sounds like a Gator (or Gator-like)
infection.
