I recently bought a Carlton Criterium - an ol Brit racing bike that goes like the proverbial. Only problem is the tyres are falling apart. What should I replace them with, for fast commuting in London (700x25)? Nothing silly money.
Schwalbe Blizzard Kevlar 25 - decent speed/weight/durabilty for the money, reasonable puncture resistance, not tight to fit. http://tinyurl.com/5a7nz
Or Panaracer Pasela 28 (actually more like a 25) for more puncture resistance but without the weight of the Armadillo.

Are these the ~£10 ea tyres. If so, seconded. Cheap as chips, reasonable puncture resistance (Despite running one pair on the fixer for a year of commuting I only replaced them because the colour was peeling off). Didn't feel I was being held back particularly while cycling.
However, I do ride on the 23mm not the 25mm. I'd be intrigued to know how much rougher the ride is as a consequence!
