    Hi Guys,
My five year old son has been diagnosed as having 'Glue Ear'. As a
pre-cursor to surgery and 'grommets' are there any alternatives you could
    recommend.

A major contributor to that condition is allergies ... especially
    cigarette smoke.

If anyone in the house smokes, tell them to QUIT!
If he's in daycare, find a non-smoking daycare.
If you regularly visit relatives who smoke, decide between
visiting them or your son's health.

    Other things that can help:
Increase water (not sodas, just water) consumption
Anti-allergy medications (the kind that minimize release of
histamines ... Zyrtec might be one, I use the herb Echinacea).

Increase liquidity of the mucous: in addition to more water
intake, some medications called expectorants can increase mucosal
flow and wash out the glue a bit. Guaisefin (spelling if not
    right, but it's close)

    Tsu
