We nearly did. But by the time we'd looked at the map of Cheltenham on
the station platform, discussed which way to head to get to Gloucester,
looked at the map again, discussed it a bit more, bought snacks from the
Spar across the road and discussed the map again, the connecting train
was about to arrive. So it seemed worthwhile to hang around a few
minutes and check whether we could get on it.
The original plan was to get a train direct to Gloucester, but we missed
it. We didn't have a map with Cheltenham on it, so to some extent we'd
have had to guess at the route. Most important of all, for Richard's
sake we didn't want to add *any* extra miles to the ride. As it was,
the ride was nearly half as long again as the longest he had ever done,
which he struggled with. When we decided to do this ride, Jamie and I
weren't expecting Richard to join us. With hindsight, we really should
have chosen a different ride when he replied positively to my ride
invitation.
