I have a couple of other bikes including a very flash MTB but when I tootle
around town on the Galaxy I've actually had people admiring the bike (to be
fair, it's the one with the two-tone, green / blue paint job) . They seem
oblivious to the tricked up MTB so who knows? Maybe they'll become
    fashionable once more...

But isn't the Dawes Sardar STI now considered to be a modern-day
replacement for the Galaxy. I would welcome advice/opinion, especially
from anyone who has seen/ridden one.

IIRC the Sardar is a 26" wheel tourer, so not a direct replacement per se.

Try emailing Jer Boon (urc thread titled jer boon) - that chap who
followed Bristol City for a season by bike, that's what he rode.

Unfortunately they don't do the Sardar in 64cm

Though since it has a compact frame where the Galaxy doesn't that isn't
a like for like comparison. Compact frames may fit a wider variety of
rider sizes and are effectively bigger than a nominal traditional frame
size suggests. How much effectively bigger I'm not sure, you'd need to
    try one.
