Monday night in Brighton.
First time I did it, it did take a bit of psyching up, having only seen it
on a science programme on the telly previously. The theory is sound and
there's really no trick to it although quite a few semi-charlattans charge
folks a hundred quid or so to "teach" them how to do it. However, a word of
advice to anyone tempted to try this. Whilst there's no real big deal to
since, "you cannae break the laws of physics" as the great man from Star
Trek put it, don't make the mistake of doing it again immediately as your
feet could still be a bit hot. In my elatation after my first go, I did get
slightly burnt on the way back ! Also don't make the mistake a mate of mine
of walking across the top of a cast iron stove. Not the same thing at all !
And not at all clever for an engineer in the nuclear industry. Mind you we
had all "dined well" that evening. We also worked out afterwards there must
have been several hundred red-hot nails and staples in the fire (made of old
pallets) so we were a bit lucky. Having introduced the trick to my caving
club it became a regular fixture, but on a subsequent occasion someone fell
over in the fire and was badly burned so it's not risk free, nor necessarily
a good idea.
Take care !
