You have to be carefull about WHICH strain of mumps vaccine you are talking
about. The MMR that has been used in the USA since 1971 has had the Jeryl
Lynn strain of mumps vaccine, which has not been associated with aseptic
meningitis, NOT the Urabe strain.
The Urabe strain has been associated with meningitis and the UK version of
MMR was changed from that to the Jeryl Lynn strain over a decade ago.
Though apparently there seems to be a problem with a single mumps vaccine
still containing the Urabe strain:

The MMR vaccine presently in use in the UK does NOT have any association
with meningitis.
By the way, MMR does not cause autism... that has been soundly disproven..
The students being infected with mumps in Scotland are at the age where some
nasty complications can occur... from deafness to permanent sterility.
