conditioning, etc. I am not looking to become a race walker, just faster
at walking.
Do you do back/back long runs? Instead of running every time on the
second day, only walk some days instead. By walk, I don't mean take a
leisurely stroll! The idea of doing it the day after a long run is to do
it when you're tired (you'll most likely be walking in the race when
tired). Spend 2 hours or so really focusing on pace, form and turnover.
It's best to do it on hills but if you're not used to them, work your
way up. The hardest part of walking fast, particularly in a race, is
concentration. It's very easy when you're tired to fall into the slow
walk mode. So just like running, if you push it some in training, come
race day it's much easier to do.
