The aspirin - caffeine combo is a well know combo for headaches. Some of
the common OTC remedies are this exact combo. Something about dilating
the blood vessels in the head or something.

The ephedrine, and the other sympathetic nervous system stimulants, are the
vasoconstrictors. The aspirin is the prostaglandin inhibitor.
