Santa Cruz became the "bedroom community" for Silicon Valley (mid
'70s)- cities like San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, etc.

The emphasis became "cheap weekend getaways" in the '80s, and when
millions of people moved to the San Francisco area about in the '90s
everything seemed to turn into a small Los Angeles! Cars everywhere!

Add that to commuting, and we have a daily rumble from 4:00 AM to 2:00
AM the next day. With so many vacations near home thrown in the mix,
we seem to have interesting strangers daily.

We have the Beach & Boardwalk, bicycle path, Mystery Spot, many parks,
etc., and a half hour drive you have Monterey Bay Aquarium, Laguna
Seca racetrack and maybe 3-400 restaurants in the area.

Only a small few- like me- yearn for property in a 100% car-free zone!

Chris, I got a chuckle out of your message. I guess I will be content to
remain where I am here in the southwest corner of Minnesota. The town that I
reside in is the country seat and continues to grow ever so slowly, but the
countryside is getting emptier and emptier with every passing year. The
counties surrounding this one are all losing population. Ah! That is just
the way I like it!
