  1. I've put a small US flag on the back for special events, such as large
organized rides, or riding on July 4th. While I'm proud to display my
flag, I'd hate to think that I was doing so to pacify morons.

This may help you: I used to get yelled at about once a week. Just
after the 9-11 attack, I put a little American flag on the back of my
bike. I've only been yelled at (actually, screamed at) once since then,
and it was by a couple punks in a truck, just trying to scare me, as
they raced by. It really helped me. YMMV.

People ofter wrap themselves in the flag to pacify morons. It's very
    effective.

Morons often wrap themselves in the flag to incite people. That's very
    effective too ;-)
