Yesterday was busy. My next door neighbor and friend, [censored],
succumbed to cancer on Wednesday. He was 88 and enjoyed life on a
daily basis. He was a wealth of gardening knowledge and somewhat of
a foodie. He was my friend. On the food side he leaned more towards
meat and potatoes but loved to try new things. We had a lot in
common in spite of the 37 year difference in our ages. It is sad and
comforting at the same time, that his illness made it possible to
become fast friends with his daughter, Sandy. She is a gardener and
foodie as well. She had moved her father into her home for the past
year, (it's all 1 story and was easier for [censored] to move around)
leaving his house vacant. When the end was imminent, Sandy and I
took the plants we most liked from [censored]'s yard. He will always be
thought of in the spring, summer and fall when his beloved tulips,
daffys, iris, Virgina blue bells, little purple things I have no name
for, hostas and surprise lillys come into their individual seasons.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Friendship often
transcends age differences which is a wonderful thing.
