  1. Yes it is sad, but what's also sad is that Keys said that cholesterol
    between 200 and 220 is optimal, yet our "experts" want it lower than
    200, which means more deaths overall, from cancer, shock, etc. So even
    the authors of this "revelation" can't get their act together. Too bad
    nobody reads the actual literature any more. I went back and read
    Key's Seven Countries book (1979), and while it is flawed (no peoples
    who ate very high saturated fatty acid diets, such as Sri Lankans were
    studied, for example), the claim that the 200 to 220 range is optimal
    seems accurate. Over 220, however, often means thyroid suppression,
    rather than too much "saturated fat" in the diet, which occurs due to
    oxidative stress.
