For a common or garden compact digital camera, I'd always choose one that could take AAs! A decent set of NiMH 2400mAh rechargeables cost less than £6, compared to £20 - £30 for proprietry LiON battery packs. The other big benefit of AAs is that if you forget to charge the thing and find yourself out of power, you stand a fair chance of finding spares in the shops.
