I've only watched one show & was surprised at some of the bacterial
numbers & the fact this kitchen was in the home of a doctor. She even
let her kids up onto the counter with dirty feet!
We have 5 indoor only cats who walk on every surface they can find, including
the kitchen counter (when I'm not cooking). Before I start cooking,
everything is sprayed with a bleach/alcohol solution, then wiped down. The
floor is swiffered daily and washed weekly, barring any cooking spills. I've
had cats for 40 years and we've never been sick because they "shared" the
kitchen.
Foodstuffs stored appropriately at the right temps in fridge and freezer.
Pantry is dark and cool for everything else.
