I have an older 6 speed ATB and I want to replace the brake/shifters.
Can a newer 8 speed Shimano Acera work with a 6 speed cassette??

    Thanks for your help.

Short answer is yes. Block 2 clicks on 8s levers and the spacing on 6s
and 8s is not large enough to make a difference. 7s shifters, which may
be easier to find on the low end, is even closer but again, spacing
differences are not a big deal.

  2. That's true, I've run modern Sram 8 speed sprockets and spacers on a
six speed cassette and they shifted fine, wasn't sure if it worked the
    other way around. :P
