ferry to Roscoff mid-June & heading East across the top of France
until I get tired, or two weeks, whichever is the sooner. Plenty of
ferry oportunities to come back: St Malo, Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre,
Dieppe, Calais.

Bike express to Nemours. I am cycling from Nemours ( Just SE of Paris ) down
the Yonne, Saone and Rhone to Avignon and then across to Narbonne -- stopping
at as many vineyards as possible. Also stopping near Orange for a side trip
into the Ardeche and Massif Central without my trailer and touring load. Bike
express back home

I'm with you on the helmet debate.

Sounds like a good trip. This is my first Northern France excursion,
always in the South before. If you're in Orange you are close enough
to have a pop at Mont Ventoux. Amazing place, like the moon up there.
If you are getting picked up at Narbonne then Narbonne Plage is a good
place to spend a couple of nights. Basic seaside type place but I like
basic seaside places.
