  1. Yes, it's possible to do too much - but we're talking about
super-motivated athletes that overtrain - not you. With your family
history be sure to get regular blood lipid profiles - including a C
Reactive Protein test. In addition, for prevention 1) eat fish 2x per
week or more 2) have a drink or two a day 3) control your weight 4)
limit saturated fats - use olive oil instead of butter. 5) avoid
refined grain products such as white bread, added sugars and white
potatoes. Replace with nuts and whole grains.6) Check your BP
regularly and be sure it's under control. For a lot of good info
and motivation try www.drmirkin.com and especially listen to his
    achived radio shows.

    Hi.

I am posting this question here rather than to an
excercise or sports related group since there is
a lot of mythology around gym-land and I really
    want more sound information.

Is it possible to do "too much excercise"? Is there
a point where excercise can hurt rather than make
    the heart healthier?

In my case I usually excercise each day. I spend
between 1 and 2 hours in the gym on a bike, cross-
country machine and rowing machine. I usually
have the resistance at a level where I need to
make some effort but where I can last for about
an hour non-stop. I aim to maintain a reasonable
level over longer periods rather than shorter periods
at high intensity. (The rest of my life is mostly at
    a desk)

After that I usually do some resistance (weight)
training but the real emphasis of my excercise is
on cardio-vascular because I try to loose weight
and keep it off. (Although I am currently around
6kg over my BMI ideal maximum, but working to
get rid of that.) I am 36.

In my case lots of people in my family have a history
of heart disease - particularly cholesterol related.

I am not sure if that can be genetic?

I am doing all this excercise but have never felt
amy symptoms - pain, chest congestion etc. On
the contrary, I feel great and the excercise makes
me feel like I am on a high.

But am I doing too much?

    Thanks in advance.

    /T.

    That prevents what? Fish stocking?

I assume you mean booze. I don't think this is sound advice at all.

Why? what is so inherently evil about a potato. this ain't the
low-carb nuthouse your posting to today, Brad.
