I'm new to road cycling and was needing some suggestions on getting my
cardio health up to speed for biking. I rode 30 miles this past
weekend with my wife and it almost killed me. I'm in good physical
shape, but rarely do any cardio. I've had one person say do intervals
on my treadmill, and others say just ride a few times a week.
Unfortunately, I can only ride on the weekends. Thanks in advance for
    any suggestions.

Well you need to get creative and figure out how to ride three-four times a
    week.
As my mileage increased and my time on the saddle got longer, I started
    commuting to and from work.
As that was the only way I could get the time to ride three-four hours on a
day during the week and rack up some serious time on the saddle.
Then on Saturday I would go on the organized rides, and once a year do a
    MS150 ride too.
basically go easy at first and increase your mileage by about 5% each week
for your long ride. Then your weekly ride although shorter in duration
increases gradually too. But if you can find the time to ride at least 30
minutes a day three or four times a week, you are in business.
