  1. Those sold as supplements are dubious as to effect, the perscription ones
    do work. They are not an excuse to over eat but a way to control blood
    glucose level rise for those who must try to control it. It does not do
    harm to organs, it just means that some additional carbs pass in the gut
    and/or are absorbed more slowly.
