Caught the tale end of a rather interesting discussion on Radio 4 at 1250 today (You and Yours) regarding Cairns on Exmoor. Apparently walkers have been removing the larger stones from the base of Bronze Age Cairns to build wind-shelters, causing them to fall down. The NT, who own the land, have come up with an idea to resolve the issue (but not yet agreed) ............. grow grass around the base .......... and place nets over the stones. The reporter referred to them as a sort of 'hair net'.
So, will curlers be placed in the grass to bend it? ........ and, how long before we have the first hill named 'Ena Sharples'? (Who is she ..... many ask!)
