I don't dispute that, but it simply indicates that the people that have baled out were very shallow, and full of their own [censored] and importance.
They wanted things only on their own terms, and no Usenet newsgroup can continue indefinitely with such a regime. I do miss giving some of the silly pompous [censored] a regular kick in the crutch.
It doesn't help that we have a psychopath in our midst who is able to consistently churn out so much repetitive childish rubbish, and has the mind-set to do it indefinitely.
NG's come and go and wax and wane. If this one founders then it will be a Pyrrhic victory for those that took their nose off to spite their face, but it's no big deal.
You seem to know a thing or two about a thing or two. I think losing people like Lyle didn't do this group much good however.

It didn't do Lyle much good either; he needed us much more than we needed him, which goes for some of the others as well.

How so?
Because he was a spamming [censored] and sold much of his wares here, and got a great deal of free publicity and leads, as of course does Brink still.
McDonald is an opinionated [censored] and loved being a big fish in a small pond. He delighted in the sycophantic adoration by some of our more naive contributors, he loved spouting forth his 'knowledge' and he adored having an outlet to express his sick perversions and discuss his weird yearnings.
