Yesterday I pedalled 57.8 miles on #1RI, 175mm Ultegra triple chainset. Today I installed an old Deore triple chainset on my tourer. It is equipped with biopace rings. Man it feels weird. I never noticed when I used these 15 years ago, but when spinning it feels really really odd as the resistance changes. Not really noticeable going up a steep hill in the 28. Here's hoping Spa Cycles have some 110mm PCD 38s and 74mm PCD 28s (I have already got a round 50)
I did 200K on Sat/Sun with a similar chainset, and barely noticed the effect. I spin at about 90, and had 44/34/28 and a close ratio rear ?12/23.
I also ride 165mm fixed so spinning isn't an issue regards, Daren
Its something to get used to. When I switched to and from biopace in the eighties I didn't notice but I think after a longish ride with round rings then switching to biopace made me feel the difference. The change in crank length is also noticable for the first ride. I have just bought replacement round rings so I now have a set (48/38/28) or used biopace rings available if anyone wants them. Make me an offer.
