I have been riding for over thirty years, in five different states and
with 5 different clubs from California to the Carolinas. And with the
exception of kids and old men on "Blue-Light-Specials" I rarely see
blacks on bicycles. As for "serious" cyclists, there MAY be a "token"
one or two in a club. But the majority of members are white. The same
goes for other races.
Where I live now (Chester, SC.) the "demographics" read a population of
64% black. The closest club, the only bike club within 50 miles in fact,
has I think two black members, one, maybe two Asians, no Hispanics.
Looking at the professional side of the sport, how many blacks do you
see riding in Le Tour? The Gyro? Vuelta? Bicycling just doesn't have as
much of a draw to non-whites as the Big-Business sports like basketball,
football, or other "ball" sports.
