Thanks that helps loads, i was aware of the left hand threaded cup, thought they were all the same though didnt know the italian uses two rh threads.
From your description i have bought an italian unit which as you say wont enter the english BB shell.

Glad to be of service.
Just one more thing: there are two different shell widths with British threading: 68mm and 73mm, the former being the more common. Just measure across the BB shell of your frame. You should match the width of the unit you buy to the width of your frame.
