> That is ... awful. Just awful.I remember "Chocolate covered lard" (in Russian) known the shortest
known joke from when I was 10 years old or so. I'm pretty certain it
started as an exploit of a silly joke - you could order it at a Kiev
restaurant and then brag to your friends that you really tried that
thing.I had a teacher in junior high school who had travelled all over the
world and I remember her saying that she would try any kind of food once
because you just never know - it might be great, and even if it's not at
least you have the experience of having tried it and you might get a
good story to tell. But I don't think I could do more than one bite of chocolate-covered
lard, no matter how much I love chocolate. The texture of lard is just
so not something I enjoy.I have to be in a mood to try new things, but I've managed to cover
many of the basics, including escargot, scungilli, oysters, and squid.
Of those, I definitely like the squid, and oysters are fun if beer is
involved. But animal fat? Can't stand it. Even as a kid, I wouldn't
eat bacon, and I always trimmed all the fat off any beef or pork
chops.Well, there is one case where the fat isn't that bad, and that's prime
rib. Just something about the texture is different.
Dude, the fat is the best part!
But it has to be cooked and still attached to the meat, not rendered
into gelatinous goo.
