It was a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hubby elected to eat like his buddies which
    was
fine...neither he nor I have any issues about that. Here is part of my
livejournal entry from today - rather than type it all out again here. I
feel really good about how I was able to not stick out like a sore thumb
from the others, and found foods to accomodate my own lifestyle without it
being an issue for me or for anybody else. And we had plenty of good food
in the room, brought some back with us in fact and it worked out real
    well,
thanks for all the suggestions! Anyway - here's how it went, at the
    eating
    part of it:

"I gave myself permission not to count carbs this weekend. NOT to go crazy
eating whatever I wanted - although I don't really want carbs much anymore
anyway - but to give myself a break from measuring and counting. Like I
    told
my daughter yesterday: "I'm not counting carbs this weekend, and I've only
had about 10 gm so far today!"

"I did fine. We ate dinner at Denny's on Friday because they have a low
    carb
menu. Had a DELICIOUS burger with melted cheddar and mushrooms, plus 3
    thin
tomato slices and a dish of green beans. So far, so good.

"Saturday, also did very well. Breakfast was a stick of string cheese and
coffee. Lunch was a chicken thigh and a pile of raw veggies (broccoli and
cauliflower) with a dip of my own creation: sour cream, 3-cheese ranch
dressing, and garlic. And a few havarti cheese cubes with a beef stick.
    Went
to a BBQ that night, and filled my plate with lettuce, over which I put
grilled chicken breast, and bleu cheese dressing. With a scoop of creamy
cole slaw and a few slices of cuke on the side, it was a great meal. Then
    I
had a piece of grilled steak. So Saturday - did absolutely fine!

"Today - my first cheats in the 9 weeks I've been doing this! I always
thought when I'd cheat, it would be a whole loaf of homemade bread - lol -
but it wasn't anything quite that dramatic. We had dinner at Old Country
Buffet after church. I started out with a salad made of a good mix of
    spring
greens, with some hard-boiled egg, cheese, sunflower seeds, and mushrooms
    on
top - creamy italian dressing. I put a few beet slices (ok, about 8, I
    LOVE
beets!) on the side, and a spoonful of carrot-raisin salad. I did try to
avoid most of the raisins though... Well it turned out that the beets were
in some sort of sweet juice - and they were GOOD! Now I know I've cheated
with the beets AND the raisins! So I went back and got a slice of roast
beef, a piece of poached fish, and a chicken breast. To drink, unsweetened
iced tea. And if I'd stopped there I wouldn't even consider it much of a
cheat. And maybe still under 30 gm for the day. But oh no...that "reduced
sugar apple pie" called to me...and I did actually have the will power to
say no to it, and not have any, and would have still been perfectly happy.
But I made a conscious choice to override my will power, and eat it. I
    can't
explain why, it just felt like something I had to do so I did.

"As a result, knowing that I didn't HAVE to eat that piece of pie but did,
knowing that it wasn't because of weakness or failure on my part but
    because
of choice, I don't feel badly about it and don't feel like I've let myself
down. I just feel like I'm learning to live with my chosen lifestyle and,
most importantly, that one "treat" every 2 months won't set me firmly on
    the
path to destruction. That is - for me - probably going to be the hardest
lesson to learn. I don't cut myself any slack.

"I'm still not hungry, which is a good thing, and will be going to bed in
    a
few hours without anything else to eat, most likely. So all is good ๐Ÿ™‚."

I'll never get tired of saying this, it's not really the carbs in your diet,
it's the calories. A low-carb diet helps you aboid the calories, but that's
    about it.

You are eating less, and that's a good thing. You have chosen a lifestyle
that will help you control your weight.

I think I've posted it here before, but my own personal plan that I love so
much is: twice as many veggies as meat/eggs, and twice as much meat/eggs as
cheese/dairy. It's a rough estimate but I know I'm not far off; I can tell
on my plate how much of what food is there - ie, from 12:00 to 8:00 on the
plate is veggies, etc. Sometimes I have something out of the ordinary,
such as LC pizza or Flax-O-Meal cereal - but no more than every other day,
and I'm still keeping my total carbs under 30 gm/day; I also don't worry
about fats overly much (although I understand that someday I might) but I
don't look for them either. So I'm not counting calories - if I thought I
had to do that again I'd simply give up, and for that reason LC has been my
answer. But following my guidelines, I'm still shrinking at a fairly rapid
rate. I don't weigh myself but my clothes that haven't fit for 5 years do
now - some are too loose! - and the changes in my body (density of fat
beneath my skin, etc.) are incredible. AND for the first time in a LONG
time, my belly doesn't touch the steering wheel when I drive! In fact,
there's about an inch and a half to spare! So the calories apparently are
taking care of themselves because I ain't counting 'em ๐Ÿ™‚.
