  1. Sounds like the classic "calibration" problem.

When all I had was a 20" freestyle and I'd only been riding a few
months, I once tried a 28" with short cranks which I did manage to get
moving a couple of times. Then I returned to the 20" and it was like I
had completely forgotten how to ride it, took me about five UPDs before
    it got back to normal.

As you swap between wheels regularly this problem does go away with
time. When I got a 24" muni I used it a lot, then when I got back on
the 20" for a short time it felt wobbly for a few seconds, but I didn't
fall off it at all and quickly got used to it again.

Fast forward to now; over the past year I've tried the same 28" wheel
with short cranks, a 29er with very short 110mm cranks, and a Coker.
Each time I've never had a problem going back to the 20" and 24" wheels
    I'm used to.

Even when I tried a Schlumpf 29er in high gear (like a 45" wheel) it
took me about twenty-five attempts to ride it successfully and rode it
around the hall several times... afterwards I still had no problems
getting on even my 20" again.
