The main difference between the Spanish enclaves in North Africa and
Gibraltar is that we are enconomically self sufficient and they are not.

How much of that depends on status as non spanish?

Very different populations and level of education, our average earnings
    are
now higher than the EU, although some of that may be down to the poker
    millionaires.

Of the terrotories disputed with Morocco I would have thought he
Canaries are self sufficient nowadays, with the amount of
    tourism.

Yes, their economy is sound, but the Canary Islands are not an enclave.

Parsley Island is economically self sufficient too 🙂 I can see it on
    a very
clear day. Can't walk there though.

so you're saying Gibraltar has better education than Spain and is
therefore richer? Where does Gibraltar earnings come from?

so are rights of occupation related to affluence in some way?

Only because they happen to be islands and the original
    inhabitants were wiped/died out.

I can see France on a clear day, don't see how that effects
    anything?

People in Gibraltar enjoy a high standard of education, with students
being funded by grants rather than loans. By contrast Andalucia is one
of the poorer and less educated parts of Spain.

The economy is diverse, we get 7m tourists a year, the worlds shipping
passes the door, banking and finance are sound and the Internet has
taken off nicely. Unemployment is low and so are social problems and
    crime.

The reference to average earnings should have been against the UK not
    the EU
thats a typo and probably untrue.

Non-EU citizens would need to show they could afford to live here.

Ah but it is a group about walking, so was trying to include some
    relevence

Do they stay? I just got off a GB airways plane and then waited
an hour to get through Spanish customs. On the way back thier was
vile old style english type food at the airport but very cheap
champagne which made the inconvenience worthwhile.

I was thinking more of territories rather than individuals

  5. Most of the tourists do more than head for the frontier, but even those
    have left
some money here, even if it only in airport taxes.

If Gibraltar was not economically sound, it would have already become
    Spanish.
Everyone has human rights, those with money get to enjoy them.
