Well done , I know from my own experience just how rewarding achieving an
improvement is.
as for a road bike consider a Moulton (F frame ) Full suspension road bike
1960s style, can heartily recomend 100k feels like 25, resilient buckled
wheels from the smallest pot hole or dip in the road and a rear carrier to
boot.
Makes MTB look like it was hacked by a bridge builder and an A frame
somthing to be consigned to the musem!
