How difficult would it be to cycle from Leicester to London in a day?
Perhaps starting really early. It's about 100 miles, .

It's been said - and proved true IME - that you can, without too much
stress, cycle in a day the distance that you usually cycle in a week.

Well, I have an awesome commute of about 2 miles. OK, that is each way.

So that nets me about 20 miles a week. Add on a Saturday morning
runaround with the kids and that pushes up to nearer 35-40.

And I can do back to back centuries by: having a bike that fits
perfectly, taking it steadily, and refuelling constantly. I end up
putting weight on on such a trip.

I've done the Dunwich Dynamo a couple or three times on the back of a
daily commute that has never been much over 25 or 30 minutes - about
a 6 or 7 mile London commute vs a 115ish mile overnight ride, followed
by an amble down to Ipswich for the train.

One year I was getting out regularly at weekends too, but I'm lazy
    enough
that that has been the exception recently.

However, I've got a good basic level of fitness and have enough riding
behind me to know that my bike is set up right. When I had just started
riding as an adult, I did the London-Cambridge ride (55-60ish) a couple
    of
times and found that I could get there OK, but flaked very badly about
15 miles into the return and had to bail to the nearest station.

The difference between then and now is in bike setup - it's much better

than it used to be - and in my approach to food and drink. Like David,
I'm likely to end up heavier at the end than at the beginning (mostly
malt loaf I have to confess) and my urine barely gets beyond
    transparent -
I'll go through a 3 litre camelback in no more than a couple of hours.

    Good luck ...

    John

I *think* I got all my tools back..

    ...d

(OK, ancient history - John S and I were both students of a sort at the
same time in the same London college, getting lost in the same
mountains at weekends - the difference was that I could cook!)

    I don't recall pinching anything ... deliberately.

    And it showed ...
