How about egg whites? They really have no taste at all, but they pack
a great wallop of protein...would it be okay/safe/wise to just gulp
them down like milk in the morning? Or must they be cooked? I'm
talking about those Egg Beaters and such, the liquid egg whites in a
little carton...I bought a bunch of 'em on sale but discover that I
have to be more of a chef than I care to be in order to actually enjoy
chewing them.Is it all right to skip the cooking and just slurp them quickly down?
COMMENT:
The Egg Beaters are a lot safer than raw egg, being pasteurized.
Plain raw eggs have a tiny risk of giving you salmonella. This is
inside the egg, so you can't wash it off.
Yes, Egg Beaters sound like a safe fast solution for those
(like me) who drink egg whites.
Country Hen states that in 7 years of testing for salmonella
they have never found the buggers.
But we eat Pete and Gerry's eggs because they are vegetarian
fed, organic, cage free, no medications, antibiotics or
pesticides, and last and not least, Certified Humane Raised
and Handled. Finally their beautiful barns are in the beautiful
White Mountains of New Hampshire about an hour or so
away from where we live on the coast of Southern Maine
(where life is as it should be--and a Blue state).
Their website is very, very attractive. We drink the whites
of their eggs in our morning smoothies. Our dogs get their
yolks, and love them.
Finally, if you're inclined (as we are) to NOT inflicting suffering
on other sentient creatures, take a look at
http://www.certifiedhumane.com/
I believe that farms that earn the "Certified Humane Raised
and Handled" certification are like also to produce healthier
products. They also tend to be small family owned farms
(like Pete and Gerry's). I abominate factory farms where one
finds the salmonella, mad cow's disease, and the like.
